How To Save Lots Of Money On Glucose Strips And Still Get A Top Blood-Sugar Meter

8

Category : Glucose Monitors and Testing Your Blood Sugar

A new blood sugar meter called the “Confirm” has been introduced from ReliOn. It is a top-quality monitor and a big money-saver on glucose strips.

Here’s my user review.

  • Save Lots of Money on Glucose Strips

One of the highest costs for diabetics is glucose test strips. Many people with diabetes test at least once or twice a day. Insulin-dependent diabetics are likely to test their blood sugar anywhere from three to ten times a day. A box of fifty strips averages from thirty to forty dollars, or from sixty to eighty cents a strip.

The daily cost of blood sugar testing for most diabetics runs from one to five dollars a day.

With ReliOn you save almost half the cost of other glucose strips.

A box of fifty strips for the ReliOn Confirm is $21.94, or just forty-four cents per strip. These are the same strips used in the ReliOn micro meter. The strips are sold separately from the meters. ReliOn strips are covered by some insurance plans and Medicare Part B.

The ReliOn Confirm is a Top-Quality, Easy-To-Use Blood Sugar Meter

The Confirm has all the features and all the simplicity that people want in their meter.

I purchased one for myself and recommend it. In fact I am switching from my ReliOn “micro” to the Confirm. Here’s the details why:

  • Accuracy — I did two quick blood sugar tests on each of three meters: my ReliOn micro meter, my TrueTrack meter and the new Confirm. Both the micro and the True Track meters test results ranged from 109 to 120 mg/dl while the Confirm’s range was much tighter: 102–104 mg/dl.
  • No Coding Required — No fumbling around with a code key when you open a new box of strips. Just pop in a strip and test.
  • Small sample size — The Confirm needs only a tiny dot of blood — 0.3 microliters — half the sample needed by their Ultima meter.
  • Alternate site testing — Though I use my fingers for test samples, you don’t have to. The Confirm is validated for alternate site testing such as on your arm.
  • The Confirm has a 360-test memory with time and date stamp. It will also average your tests over 14 or 30 days.

The Confirm is 4x2 inches and is thin and light. It is available in steel blue and magenta-pink (“Beyond Blue” and “Perfect Pink”). It comes with a log book, Quick Reference Guide and User Instruction Manual in English and Spanish, and a registration/comment card.

One thing I found misleading is that the box advertises “Downloadable test results” and “Download equipment available”. The instructions in the box directed me to the customer service number, (800) 631‑0076. What they offer is a $60/year subscription so you can upload your information where it is stored, sorted, averaged and charted for you, etc.

What they do not offer (and what I wanted) is software and a cable to download the information from the meter to the computer. Customer service told me they “may have it soon”.

All in all I am happy with the meter and I think most diabetics would be happy with it too — especially with the ease of use and the money saved on test strips. Your can get your own ReliOn Confirm blood-sugar meter at WalMart.

Hi, all.

I’m an employee at ARKRAY, the company that makes the ReliOn Confirm for Walmart. First of all, let me say thanks for this positive review! It’s great to hear about the things you like about your new ReliOn Confirm meter system.

To clarify your question about the downloadability of the system, I wanted to let you know that all of our meters are downloadable to the MyCareTeam website where patients can upload their meter data, easily track medications, activity and diet and stay connected with their health care team and other care givers. The only cost users pay is the one-time cost of the USB cable that connects your ReliOn Confirm meter to your PC and allows you to upload your data. The cable carries a one-time cost of $29.95.

If you have any quesitons, please call our customer support line at 1–800-631‑0076.

Hi Arkray,

The customer support line you gave is the one I called. I will follow up and report back here soon.

Thanks for your comment!

For a diabetic with no insurance this meter just made my day! reliable and cheap test strips, whats not to love!

Okay, I followed up on Arkray’s comment. He is right. The customer service rep just told me that as of March 3rd there is no longer any charge for using the MyCare website. The only charge is $29.95 for the cable.

Terrific! I will amend my original article.

Hey tali,

Great to hear from another fan of the ReliOn Confirm. And now the cable is priced right (like the strips!), with no subscription to their website needed.

Question — I picked up a Confirm tonight. I tested post dinner 1-hour — Confirm was 144 (I am only 2 weeks into this). I checked with my TrueResult meter and it was 160 — should I be concerned about the difference or just go with the Confirm from now on out?

Hi Frank,

Generally speaking it’s best to stick with one or the other (no pun intended). Take several readings with both meters and see if you get wider variations with the same meter. I like the Confirm because it seems to give a narrower range of results.

Thanks for your question. Keep at it, you’ll do fine.

Super post, tienen que marcarlo en Digg
Have a nice day
